About Israel M Standefer, Jr.

STANDEFER, ISRAEL (1781-1852). Israel Standefer, member of the annexationqv convention, son of Israel and Susannah (Heard) Standefer, was born in Henry County, Virginia, on November 8, 1781. He lived for a time in Tennessee, Georgia, and Alabama before he and his wife, Naomi, came to Texas in December 1841. They settled at Tenoxtitlán on the Brazos River in Milam County, which Standefer represented in the Convention of 1845.qv The Standefers had eight children. Standefer died on October 28, 1852.

OTHER NOTES: Israel Standefer had two mistresses: Evie Hasler and Katherine Stewart. He had a child by each lady. From: Whitley, Tennessee Genealogical Records, p. 133, shows Israel petitioned the state "regarding the changing of the names of his two illegitimate children, Polly Hasler, born to Evie Hasler, and James Stewart, born to Katherine Stewart". They were born at the time he was in Greene County, GA.

Israel M. Standefer married Naomi Standefer January 12, 1815 in Knox Co., TN. She was the daughter of William Standefer and Jemima Jones. They were first cousins.
