Participated in the January Uprising, or "powstanie styczniowe" of 1863, and was sent away to Siberia for seven years. Some of his family's estates were confiscated. Apparently they retained the Sukurcz estate near Lida in present Belarus (7 kilometers northwest of town, 3 kilometers from Krupa).
