About Jacob Cardinaal

From cadet in 01/08-1870 Jacob advanced through the navy ranks via Lt. 2 class, Lt. 1 class, lt.captain, captain, commodore and finally became vice admiral on 1/08-1909.

From 01/06-1906 - 01/11-1907 he was chief of the marine station in Hellevoetssluis, and later commander of the command posts "Monden der Maas" and "Harinvliet".

Jacob Cardinaal was honorably dismissed from service on 01/11-1909.

From 1911 - 1914 he was a member of the commission for better conditions for prisoners.

His funeral was witnessed by Mr Wentholt, Marine minister, 3 pensioned admirals van den Bosch, Engelbrecht and Koster, marine colonel Timmers and many more prominent marine officers.

He was cremated in april 1918 in Driehuizen.

Jacob held the following decorations: Knight of the Military Willems Order, Knight of the Dutch Lion order, distinguished cross for important war effort.
