About Jacob Garman (German)

He was left motherless at the age of 7 and fatherless at the age of 12. Up to this time, he had the benefit of school and had made noted progress in his studies, being ahead of those of his age, especially in penmanship. He became the copywriter for the school, being a better penman than the teacher. The goose guill then being used.

After this age, his lot was cast among people who believed that boys should learn the three R's: Reading, Riting, and Rithmetic, but had a belief that it is wrong to teach the child anything more. Under these conditions, he grew to manhood, lived a very industrial and economical life.

He married Susanna Ruth, November 17th, 1844, at Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. He later emigrated to Wayne County, Ohio near Dalton, where he made his home until his death.
