Descendants of Jacob Crow

Jacob CROW was born in 1732 in Germany. He died in 1823 in . He was buried in the Crow Family Cemetery, Greene County PA. Tradition says Jacob Crow arrived in America as an indentured servant. He came from Germany and the name may have been Gro and later Americanized to Crow. J. Homer Crow in “The Fireside Stories of the Jacob Crow Family” records the history of Jacob Crow.

The murders of his children are recorded in several Western Virginia and southwestern Pennsylvania history books. John Crow was murdered by Indians in 1789 on Crows Run, Wetzel County WV while on a hunting trip with older brothers, Fred and Martin. On 1 May 1791, four of Jacob's daughters: Lizabeth, Susan, Katherine and Christena were attacked by two

Indians and a white renegade named Spicer. Three of the sisters were tomahawked and scalped. Christena escaped but carried the mark of a tomahawk on her neck for the rest of her life.

Susan SECRIS was born in 1735. Susan's parentage is unknown. In the "Fireside Stories of the Jacob Crow family" Homer Crow related the following stories about Susan. The story he was told is she was an indentured servant by the name of Susan Trusel or Secrist. Another account says Jacob married a Huron Indian. Another says that Susan was the daughter of a Huron Indian woman and of Colonel William Secris.

Her maiden name was given on the baptismal record of Fred: Friedericus, son of Jacob and Susanna (Siegrist) Gro, born 26 Jul 1762 and baptized 29 Aug 1762. Sponsors: Frederick Stritmeyer and wife Magdalena. First Reformed Church, York County PA. Jacob CROW and Susan SECRIS had the following children:

Source Notes: The Fireside Stories of The Jacob Crow Family"

No Revolutionary service has been postitively identified for him, John Gwathmey's "Virginias

In The Revolutition" lists a Jacob Crow in the Company of Capt. Daniel Smith (1776), as a private. Since the part of Pennsylvania in which Jacob Crow then lived was claimed, at that time, by Virginia it is quite likely that this service applies to this Jacob Crow. The 1798 District Tax List, a tax ordered by the United States Congress, shows Jacob Crow in Richhill Township of Greene County, Pennsylvania. He owned and occupied a dwelling house 30' x 24' on 400 acres of land, adjoining John Craig and others. At that time only 22 familes lived in all Richhill Twp., which, at that time, contained 64,539 acres of land; that was 27.5% of the entire area of the county.
