About Jacques Alexander Samossoud

Jacques Alexandria Samossoud was a Russian composer and conductor who married Mark Twain's daughter, Clara Langhorne Clemens (1874-1962) in 1944 at Clara's Hollywood, California home.

From 1924 to 1926, while married to a Greek soprano named Thalia Sabanieva, he conducted the orchestra of the Washington National Opera, a struggling semi-professional company active in the US capital from 1919 to 1936 and not to be confused with the present company of the same name; his departure was due to an acrimonious contract dispute.
