About Jakob Lazar (Brull)
Jakob's Hebrew name was "Jechezkiel" [Ezekiel]. He was commonly known in the community as "Jacob b. Lesel", more so as "Jacob Brull" as an adult. When Jewish families were ordered to use official surnames in 1787, Jacob opted to assume "Laser" [Lazar] although we was still occasionally referred to as "Brull."
According to Dr. Leopold GoldSchmied, "Geschichte der Juden in Prossnitz," Jacob and Aaron Charsap were sent to the court in Vienna in 1797 "as representatives of the community."
