James Carney born on 22 Jun 1789 in St. Andrew, Holborn, London

He Died on 20 Aug 1870 at the age of 81 in Grahamstown.

He was a Saddler/Framer at Tiger Springs, Bathurst, South Africa.

He was an 1820 settler with Dixon's party on the ship Ocean. He travelled with his newly wed wife and their three month old daughter Elizabeth. This was a frigate which sailed on the 13th December, 1819 and landed at Table Bay, Cape Town on the 29th March, 1820. It then sailed on and landed at Algoa Bay, Port Elizabeth on the 15th April, 1820. James Carney then became a farmer. He first settled on the Waaiplaats on the Kaffir Kraal river. Later he farmed at Tiger Springs on the Lynedoch river, near Bathurst.

  • 2nd marriage - Elizabeth Clark on 2 Feb 1816.
  • 3rd marriage - Elisabeth Leacher on 26 Nov 1819.
