The home of the Gilmore's (Gilmour's) was Craigmiller Castle, Scotland. Before the seige of Londonderry, they went to Norther Ireland, and were in that seige. About 1730, James Gilmore came to America and settled in PA. About 1737, with his wife, Martha Dennison Gilmore and family, he came to what was then Augusta Co., but is now Rockbridge Co., VA, as did, also , his sons Joseph & William Gilmore. Joseph & William evidently continued to work the plantation jointly until 1816, when they divided it. William emigrated to Ohio in 1818.
