Emigrated to NZ 11/1876.
According to Robbie McGavin's 1994 notes:
"James Gribble was a miner like his father.
Emigrated from Cornwall, England to Wellington New Zealand in 11/1875 with widowed mother Alice and sons James(Jim) and Henry by earlier marriage to Mary, on "Howrah".
James' future second wife Harriett ROBERTS was on the same ship, along with Harriett's brother William Henry ROBERTS and William's wife Mary.
James' elder sister Eliza had emigrated to New Zealand two years earlier after marrying Harriet's brother Thomas ROBERTS in England.
Another Redruth, Cornwall miner, Samuel Gribble, 1822-1897, probably related, moved to Thames NZ about 1868.
Lived in Nelson.
Miner (coal? tin?), labourer.
Never wealthy."
