"On 10 June 1503 James, 2nd Lord Hamilton, granted precept of sasine to his bailies William Hamilton of Cander and John Hamilton his son and heir-apparent for infefting James Hamilton in Raploch and Isabel Weir his spouse in the granter's lands of Raploch. They were infeft in the lands 26 June following." and observes that this is the reference that places the descent of this branch of the family on firm ground.

James Hamilton of Raploch, who had a charter from George, Lord St John, Preceptor of Torfichen, of the Temple lands, called the Wairds, near Hamilton, dated 10th February 1517.
