James Robert Newberry is listed in the 1920 Galveston Census as being 32 years old, which would make him being born in 1888. However, his family believes he was born in 1886 in Morristown, Tenn., which is in Hamblen County.

In 1930, James R. Newberry was living in Galveston and listed as age 44. That would document the 1986 birth date. In that census record it states that he was born in Tennessee and that his son Ralph was born about 1911 in Texas. It also says that he & Stella were married when he was 20 years old, which would have put it about 1906, and it says that Stella was born in Texas, which means they probably met and married in Texas (but her father was born in Tennessee, so that may not be the case).

According to researchers in Tennessee, there were no Newberrys or Newburys recorded as living in Hamblen County in 1900, although there were a few in nearby Hawkins and Greene counties.
