About James Perkins

James was a partner with his brother Thomas in the Haiti slave trade, then also with their brother-in-law Russell Sturgis, in the sale of Northwest American furs and Turkish opium to China.

\n

Mr. Perkins was senior member of the commercial firm of J. &. T. H. Perkins, a Boston house of wide reputation. The Perkins family founded the Perkins Institution for the Blind not true, but they were donors and the Boston Atheneum.
