  • He married, probably in 1642, Susannah, daughter of George Wright of Newport, who was probably of Salem, 1637, Newport, 1648, and who in 1649 stabbed one Walter Lettice, as John Winthrop, Jr., received a letter to this effect from Roger Williams.
  • His will was drawn April 23, 1677, and was proved in Portsmouth Oct. 28, 1678. His son Richard was executor and he calls him his "eledest son."

Martha Earle. George, d. April 20, 1718, in Portsmouth. In 1699-1702 he was deputy ; 1706-7-8-9-10-11 an assistant ; 1708, April, he was appointed on the committee in regard to vacant lands in Narragansett. His will is proved May 12, 1718, with wife Susannah executor. His inventory was £961 5s 10d. George was the eldest son of Thomas and Ann ( ---- ) Brownell, who was in Pourtsmouth as early as 1647.

He passed away July 19, 1720 ; Richard was freeman of the colony of Portsmouth May, 1663 ; freeman of the town of Portsmouth Apr. 28, 1669 ; was sole executor of his father's will Sept. 10, 1691. Richard Pearce and Experience, his wife, of Bristol, sold 16 acres of land in Portsmouth to William Harrington for £48. He probably settled in Bristol soon after his father's death. .... etc.

Aug. 3, 1709, an agreement was filed between John Pearce of Tiverton, John Read, Jr., of Freetown and Mary his wife, Samuel Shearman and Sarah his wife of Swanzey, Thomas Cook, Jr., and his wife Elizabeth, John Cook, son of John Cook and Rachel his wife of Tiverton and Alice Pearce, all children of John Pearce, deceased, who died intestate. John was the only son. ..... etc.

Mar. 11, 1718 ; m. 2nd Mar. 22, 1721, Temperance Kirby, b. May 5, 1670, d. Feb. 25, 1761. He d. Aug. 30, 1752. Res. Little Compton, R. I., and in 1696 sold lands to his brother-in-law, Richard Hart. There was a George Pearce and George, Jr., in Little Compton in 1748, who at that time took the oath against bribery and corruption. The following is a copy of the entry of the first marriage of George Pearce from the Portsmouth town records :
  • On Rhode Island, the seventh day of April, in the year of our Lord one thousand six hundred and eighty-seven, George Pearce, of Portsmouth aforesaid, did take to wife Alice Hart, daughter of Richard Hart, of Portsmouth, and the said George Pearce and Alice Hart here and then, according to law, joined together in marriage before me, John Coggshall, Justice.

Kezia --- and --- Grene ; William, b. Apr. 13, 1711 ; d. May 13, 1712. After Susanah's death he m. Oct. 15, 1712, Sarah Carr, by whom he had five children. Res. Little Compton, R. I. Edward Thurston was the eldest son of Jonathan Thurston of Little Compton, R. I., where he was born in 1679. He was a grandson of Edward Thurston, who was the first by that name in the Colony of Rhode Island. According to the Thurston genealogy he must have been there some time previous to 1647, sufficient, at least, to attend to the preliminaries of his marriage, which occurred June, 1647, to Elizabeth Mott, daughter of Adam Mott.* and is the third on the record of the "Society of Friends" at Newport. He is mentioned in the Colonial records as a freeman in 1655, as commissienor, assistant and deputy from Newport for many years from 1663 to 1690. On Aug. 26, 1686 he, with others, signed an address from the Quakers of Rhode Island to the king. He died Mar. 1, 1707, ae 90. She d. Sept. 2, 1694, ae 67. His grandson Edward is mentioned in the will.
