Jane Barton 39, together with her husband Thomas Sweetnam 46, wheelwright, and their 3 children, were members of William Menezes' Party of 51 Settlers on the Weymouth.

Party originated from Kent.

Departed London, 7 January 1820. Arrived Table Bay, Cape Town on 16 April 1820. Final Port - Algoa Bay, Port Elizabeth 15 May 1820.

Jane died of face cancer. She had a small mole below the eye, and her brass-rimmed spectacles rested on it and eventually caused it to swell. Cousin Hannah thought the old woman from a neighbor's who used to come daily to attend her may have taken, or perhaps Grandmother gave her, whatever was useful in the "Chest"
