"...Because of the birth of her child on 8 February 1849 in Merthyr Tydfil, Jane did not accompany her husband to Swansea and then to Liverpool where the "Buena Vista" left on 26 February 1849. It was Dan Jones's intention to leave his wife in the care of the Saints in Wales until his return on a second mission a few years hence. Jane apparently did not agree with this plan and made her way to Liverpool where she left on the "Emblem" just two weeks after the departure of her husband. She and little Claudia caught up with Dan Jones in Council Bluffs and crossed the plains with him that same year.

Jane Melling Jones died 24 February 1861 in Provo, Utah. She is buried in the Provo City Cemetery. Her husband died 3 January 1862 in Provo and is also buried in the Provo City Cemetery by Jane's side.
