Jean Cloutier from http://www.naples.net/~clutchey/jean.htm
It is interesting to note the enormous historical significance of one of o ur 'ancestral cousins". Jean Cloutier the second son of Zacharie Clouti er and one of the 'builders' of Château-Richer. Jean married Marie the dau ghter of Abraham Martin. Martin was a remarkable man in his own right. N ot only was he a contemporary of Zacharie Cloutier I the father of Jea n, he was also known as L'Ecossais "the Scotchman" who was a river boat pi lot on the St. Lawrence.
In the archives of "The Dames Ursulines", are the titles of two farms th at he owned. The historical status of the two farms did not really take pl ace until long after his death. On September 12th 1759, a young British Ge neral scaled the ramparts of Québec City in an attempt to capture the ci ty from the French. At dawn his troops lined up on the fields and await ed the attack of the french general, Moncalm. The ensuing battle in whi ch both generals died, was fought on the lands that Abraham Martin once ow ned. To this day the battle won by the English is known as the battle of T HE PLAINS OF ABRAHAM.
