Jean (John) Marot owned and operated Marot's Ordinary (same as an inn or tavern) in Colonial Williamsburg, Virginia. John, a Huguenot refugee, started his career in Virginia around 1700 when he was hired as a servant by William Byrd. John was allegedly murdered by a rival tavern keeper, Francis Sharp.
