: Finding Sainte-Anne, where many Acadians arrived in the autumn of 1755, too crowded, many of them were obliged to be sent to Québec in the summer of 1757. Joseph and his 2nd wife Marie Josephe went to Trois-Pistoles, where a son Pierre was born in 1760. The following year, they were at Cap Saint-Jacques, where daughter Marie Anne was born in 1764.
:The royal proclamation of 1764 no doubt influenced the couple to return to Acadie, where they settled at the rivier Saint-Jean "above St-Anne's." However, the British would want these lands themselves, to grant to Loyalist soldiers. According to Major STUDHOLME in 1783, in hisreport found in COLLECTION N.B. HISTORICAL SOCIETY, vol. I, pp. 100-118: there were 354 people (61 men, 57 women, and 236 children), "but afew if any have a legal title to their lands." :When the disbanded troups began to take the lands alloted to them, it was found that a good many of the best locations above St-Anne werein the possessions of the Acadians who has in some instances, made considerable improvements...and their claim to consideration was lessened by the fact that they had been notified on more than one occasion that it was not the intention of government that ...they should settle there. (Cites Raymond, HISTORY OF THE RIVER ST-JOHN, 1910, pp. 362-415.) :Joseph and his wife went back to Cap Saint-Ignace, Quebec, and settled on Sugar Island, where later on 15 Jul 1786 he would sell a house and 100 acres of land to Federick de PEYSTER, captain in the New York Volunteers, for 87 pounds. Joseph asked the authorities for a concession of land in the northwest of New Brunswick, and was granted it on 25Apr 1787.<ref>Title: Nos Sources; Page: vol. 20, no. 1 (Mar 2000), p. 12 Source published by Karen Theriot Reader, RootsWeb.com, Inc. </ref>
