About Jmdr. Khanzada Abdel Latif Khan, IDSM

Late Jemadar Abdel Latif Khan (or also written Abdul Latif Khan) was a native officer in the 82nd Punjabis, British Indian Army infantry (also called 'Dalrymple's Paltan'; later 5/1 Punjab Regiment and now 4/1 Punjab Regiment of the Pakistan Army) . After serving on the Northwest Frontier in 1914-1915, the regiment was sent to Mesopotamia in January 1916 and two months later it participated in the failed attempt to relieve the beleaguered garrison of Kut al Amara. The regiment suffered severe casualties on 8th March 1916 in the Battle of Dujaila Redoubt during which the Abdul Latif Khan was killed in action. Abdul Latif Khan is commemorated on the Commonwealth War Graves Commission’s Basra War Memorial.
