About Joan Ballenden (Cowley)
Went to England in 1892 after the death of her father in 1889 with her mother and 4 siblings. Was educated in Bedford where her mother died in 1897. Marshall Campbell became her Guardian.
She went to Cheltenham Ladies College and in 1901 census she is age 20 a boarding student in the College at 24/25 Landsdown Road, Landsdown Place, Cheltenham.
She passed her Cambridge Teachers exam.
She returned to South Africa for her wedding in 1905.
