About Johann Nymann

Nyman, Johan Christiansson

Was a teacher, cantor, publisher and cultural evangelist—among many other activities.

Born in Klottorp (Suur-Nõmmküla) Johan started school at age 11 in Sutlep (Sutlepa) and went on to the seminar in 1873. After exams in December 1876, he was still too young to be appointed as an independent teacher, so he got to stay with Thure Emanuel Thorén as his assistant, on SEM's dime. (Evangeliska Fosterlandsstiftelsen, EFS a.k.a Swedish Evangelical Mission, SEM) (Aman 1992: 89-90).
