About Johann Leonhard Dober

Johann Leonhard Dober (1706-1766), a potter who was first in Herrnhut in 1725; in 1732 he went with D. Nitschmann as the first Moravian missionary (Bohemian and Moravian Brethren) to St. Thomas, West Indies. In 1735 he became General Elder in Herrnhut, serving among the Jews in Holland 1738/39, leaving office in 1741; he was head of Moravian activities there 1741–1745. On Jun 4, 1747, he was ordained bishop; in Livonia 1747–1749.
