He was married to Anna Maria Menges, of Union, now Snyder County. He served in the Revolution, served in the legislature on Penna., was Justice or the Peace and Chief Purges of the Borough of Lebanon from 1823 to 1826. They had six sons and fix daughters

John Peter Shindel, s/o Johann Peter and Anna Margaretta (Gephart) Schindel, was married to Anna Maria (Menges) Shindel. They were the parents of 12 children. Peter was a fifer with the Lancaster County Militia in the 2nd Company of the 2nd Battalion during the Revolutionary War. Later he was a Justice of the Peace, Chief Burgess of Lebanon and served in the PA State Legislature from 1814-1816. He was a member of Salem Lutheran Church and was buried in its graveyard then reinterred at Mt. Lebanon.
