About Johann Georg Troxler

Johann Georg Troxler, of Lichtenberg in Alsace. Catholic; 26 years old. A mason. His wife. "Fort bon travailleur". Two and one-half arpents cleared, on which he has been only since - the beginning of the year having left the village in the rear. Exposed to inundation. Absent because of bad health. His wife is also sick. Lost his crop and his house. A neighbor, who cooked in a shed attached to Troxler's house, accidentally set fire to it. 1731: Two children. Two negroes; one cow. Johann Georg Troxler was the progenitor of all the "Troxler" and "Trosclair" families in Louisiana.

Phalsbourg (German language: Pfalzburg) is a town in Moselle, (Lorraine), France. Its populat ion is about 5000. In 1911, it was a town in the imperial province of Alsace-Lorraine , lying high on the west s lopes of the Vosges, 25 miles (40 km) north-west of Strasbourg by rail. In 1911, it containe d an Evangelical and a Roman Catholic church, a synagogue and a teachers seminary. Its indust ries include the manufacture of gloves, straw hats and liqueurs, and also quarrying. The principality of Phalsbourg, of which this town was the capital, originally a part of Luxe mbourg, afterwards belonged in turn to the bishop of Metz, the bishop of Strasbourg and the d uke of Lorraine , and passed into the possession of France in 1661.

According to information provided to the census enumerator in 1724, Johann George TROXLER sta te that he was born in Listamberg in Alsace. (Source: Archives des Colonies, Series G1, Vol 4 64, non-paginated. The name of the town was spelled phonetically, as no town in Alsace is na mes "Listamberg.") Four years earlier, Johann Georg TROXLER, son of Jost TROXLER and Barbe F ALLER, married at Phalsbourg to Marie Madelaine HAUSSER, daughter of deceased Jean Hauser an d Anne Catherine Wachtler, resident of Lautenbourg, diocese of Spire (Source: Phalsbourg, Mos elle, France (Catholic Church, FHL Microfilm No. 1331670, p. 98) In the text of the act of m arriage, it was stated that Johann Georg TROXLER was a native of Lictenberg. (Source: Anothe r Citizen of Lictenberg, Michel JACOB, son of Michel JACOB and Eve REITER, married at Phalsbo urg on the same date to Marie Madelaine BECHLER.) The text of the translated document appear s below:

" The fourteenth of August 1720, I, the undersigned parish priest of this place, hav e blessed confirmed and ratified in the view of the church, the legitimate marriage contrac t between Jean George TROXLER, son of deceased Jost TROXLER and of Barbe FALLER(IN), of Lictenberg, the first party, and Marie Madelain HAUSER(IN), daughter of deceased Jean HAUSER and A nne Catherine WACHTLER(IN), the mother, present of Lautenbourg, Diocese of Spire, the other p arty, and this with the requisition of Mr. J. HESLER, commissioner and conductor of the sai d parties to Louisiana, and in the presence of witnesses (Mark of the groom, mark of the bride, illegible signature and FICHER, parish priest of this place)."
