Johannes David Grootschel v. Kopenhagen. In 1750 is hy op die Deense skip Elephant wat by Gouritz mond op 8 Augustus 1750 strand. Die skip was onder bevel van Kapt Andries Evertsz Gimstra. Hy dien twee jaar as kneg by Casper Hendrik Badenhorst, later in diens v. heemraad N. Vlok.

Die spelling v.d. van verander mettertyd in die doopboeke v. Tulbagh, op 16.8.1761 nog Grootschel in 1771 Grisschel = in 1794 Grisel, teen 1800 Griesel x 11.5.1760 Anna Maria Jacoba PELSER

Geen PELTZER dope tussen 1745 en 1754 kon in die Kaap, Paarl, Stellenbosch, Tulbagh en Zwartland (die enigste gemeentes van daardie tyd) opgespoor word nie. Abraham Jacobus PELSER (nie a1b2c4d1 nie, want hy was toe nog te jonk) en ene Willemina Christina NN was doopgetuies by 'n 1794 doop in Graaff-Reinet, maar hul name is nêrens elders aangeteken nie-of hulle getroud was en kinders gehad het, kon nie vasgestel word nie.

The Shipwreck of the Elephant (1750): Danish ship commanded by Captain Andries Evertsz Grimstra. Run ashore close to Gourits River while on a homeward-bound voyage from Tranquebar, India on 8 August 1750. She was trying to reach Mossel Bay, but was wrecked on purpose in an effort to save the lives of the desperately sick crew. No lives were lost; the crew of 65 walked to Cape Town.• Cape Archives, V.C.29]
