About Johannes "Peter" Peter Fleisher (Flesher), Sr.

In 1752, Peter Fleischer, together with his wife (Anna Theil) and at least one of their eventual eight children, accompanied by Peter's younger brother Heinrich, emigrated to America, arriving in Philadelphia on 2 November 1752 aboard the ship Phoenix: Captain John Spurrier. It appears from the evidence compiled by David Armstrong that the two brothers were following in the footsteps of their cousins Balthasar and Agnes, children of their Uncle Andreas. (Redwood, jan ‘96 pg 49:child born to Peter in Germany 1750.)

The original spelling of the name was FLEISCHER. After coming to America one branch spelled it FLEISCHER but the majority changed it to the Americanized or phonetic spelling FLESHER.

Johannes Peter Fleischer, born about 1720 in Germany, near the Black Forest, came to America in November 2, 1752 with Heinrich Fleischer (brothers?) arrived in Philadelphia on the ship "Phoenix". Lived for a while in the Penn Colony near Philadelphia. He and his family then moved to the south branch of the Potomac River. In 1765 he purchased 200 acres

of land from Thomas Parsons in what is now Highland County, Virginia, near the state line dividing Highland from Pendleton County, West Virginia. He lived in this home the rest of his life.

Peter's wife's name is not known but she came to America with him and both are buried in the family cemetery on the home farm. Peter died in 1801.

They had nine children, some of whom were born in Germany. The order of their birth is not known.

"From an old typed note (same as notes on Henry, Sr.): Johannes came from near the Black Forest in Germany, landing @@ Philadelphia Sept. 24, 1753. After living for a time in the Penn Colony, he emigrated to Virginia & settled where Straight Creek empties into the South Branch of the Potomac River, near its headwaters, in the northern part of what is now Highland County, Virginia, in 1765."

In 1752, Peter Flesher (son of Balthasar and Anna), together with his wife Anna THEIL and six of their eventual "eleven" (I believe this should read "nine" and is possibly a error in this source) children, accompanied by his (Peter's) younger brother Henry, emigrated to America, arriving in Philadelphia aboard the ship "Phoenix" on 02 November of that year. Peter and his family settled in Highland County, Virginia, while younger brother Henry selected the present-day site of Weston, Lewis County, West Virginia as home.
