"John, his wife Wilbroe , and their children came to America from England in 1635 on the ship "Hopewell". John was 40 years old at the time. They settled in Lynn, Mass where they remained until about 1638. At this time they moved to New York where John was one of the purchasers of the land that is now Southhampton, Long Island, NY. This land was purchased from the Indians. They remained there until the early 1700s at which time they moved to Piscataway, Middelsex county, New Jersey." -------------------- John came over from England in 1635 in the "Hopewell" at the age of 41. With him came his wife, Mary Wilbroe and children, Mary (age 13), John (age 10), Thomas (age 7), and Martha (age 5.) He was from Olney in Buckinghamshire. He was one of twenty heads of families who formed the association for the settlement at Southampton, Long Island, New York in 1639. He was admitted freeman at Boston, Dec. 6, 1636 and was one of the elders of the church when it was organized at Lynn, New York. "A Genealogical Dictionary of the First Settlers of New England" James Savage Pub. Boston, 1860-1862, p. 510 "COOPER, JOHN, Lynn, came, 1635, in the Hopewell, capt. Bundock, aged 41, with w. and ch. Mary, 13; John, 10; Thomas, 7; and Martha, 5. He was from Olney, Co. Bucks; freem. 8 Dec. 1636; was one of the purch. from the Ind. for the projectors of the col. at Southampton, L. I. and there was liv. 1661."

Her origins, relatives in England and New England, and the family of John Cooper are well presented in TAG 64:193 Oct 1989. She was born about 1593 (aged 42 in the ship manfest of 1635), in probably Buckingham Co, England. Their marriage record has been identified and proven as October 18, 1618, in Olney, Bucks, England. This was her second marriage... She died Bef. May 06, 1662, in Southampton, Long Island. She would have been 69 in 1662. Died: Aft. May 06, 1662, date his will was written in Southampton, Long Island. (The date the will was proven is not known.) He was about 68 when he wrote this will."
