It is not clear what evidence there is for the name of this John's father. The "Jr." designation is to separate him from the possible parent John Beard prior to 1765.

JOHN SERVED IN THE REV. WAR AS A SOLDIER/PRIVATE HORSEMAN IN SC, FOR ABOUT FOURTEEN MONTHS TOTAL AT VARIOUS TIMES DURING THE YEARS 1779-1783; SERVING UNDER CAPT. JOHN IRWIN AND COL. WILLIAM BRATTON. HE FOUGHT IN THE BATTLES OF BLACKSTOCK, COWPENS, AND KINGS MOUNTAIN, AND WAS WOUNDED IN THE LEFT SHOULDER BY AN ENEMY SABER ("THE FAMILY AND DESCENDENTS OF THOMAS NEWTON BLACKSTOCK", BY R.C. KARL, P. 101). MARY APPLIED FOR A PENSION AS WIDOW IN 1847. (APPLICATION #R-670), WHICH WAS REJECTED BECAUSE OF INSUFFICIENT PROOF OF SERVICE.

A MARKER STANDS IN THE GREENBRIER CUMMUNITY OF SOUTHWEST WILLIAMSON COUNTY HONORING SEVERAL REVOLUTIONARY WAR SOLDIERS WHO WERE THE FIRST SETTLERS OF THE AREA. JOHN BEARD IS THE FIRST NAME ON THE LIST. ALSO ON THE LIST IS JAMES POTTS, FATHER OF MOSES BEARD'S WIFE, MARGARET. THE REV. SOLDIERS NAMED ON THE MARKER WERE GRANTED THE LANDS HERE AS PAYMENT FOR THERE MILITARY DUTY.

JOHN AND MARY WERE MARRIED BY JAMES OLIPHANT, A JP, on Jan 1, 1785, Spartanburg Co., SC.

JOHN OWNED TWO TRACTS OF LAND CONTAINING 50 ACRES ON LICK CREEK IN WILLIAMSON CO., TN AND WILLED TO HIS WIFE IN 1826. (LAND RECORDS, WILLIAMSON CO., BOOK I - 5O ACRES 5 JULY 1824, PAGE 39, #46, AND 50 ACRES 1 JAN 1825, PAGE 62, #173) WHEN MARY DIED IN 1853, A DIVISION OF THE PROPERTY WAS MADE AMONG THE CHILDREN NOV, 1853. (P. 117-118, MISC. RECORDS OF WILLIAMSON CO., TN)
