October 1674 fined in Plymouth Colony Court 23 Jul 1701 - Name appears as owner of an adjacent meadow in an original unrecorded Barnstable deed, from Thomas Crowell to John's brother-in-law, Daniel Baker; the deeded land lay east of Swan Pond River, in that part of Yarmouth known as South Sea.

John and his oldest brother, William and three brothers-in-law; Daniel, Samuel, and William Baker, were members of the Narragansett Expedition in 1675/76. Of the forty Yarmouth men who took part in the expedition, only William Chase and Richard Taylor were living when the grants for this service were made in 1735. John's grant was assigned to his heirs. The Massachusetts HOuse, justifying and explaining the grants to the Council on 19 Jan 1732, sent the following message: Proclaminations were made to them, when mustered on Dedham Plain, whence they began their march' (Rev. Peter Hobarts diary gives the date of this marching from Dedham, Dec. 9, 1675) 'that if they played the man,

took the fort, and drove the enemy out of the Narragansett country, which was their great seat, they should have a gratuity in land, besides their wages.' Such a victory was achieved. 'And as the condition have been performed, certainly the promisei in all equity and justice out to be fulfilled. And if we consider the difficulties these brave men went through in storming the fort in the depth of winter, and the pinching wants they afterwards underwent in persuing the Indians that escaped, through the hideous wilderness, formerly known throughout New England to this day, by the name of the "hungry march" and if we further consider, that until this brave, though small army, thus played the man, the whole

country was filled with distress and fear, and we trembled in this capital, Boston itself, and that to the goodness of God to this army, we owe our fathers and our own safety and estates'- they ought to have claim." No will or intestate administration of his estate has been found.
