About John Smith Davenport

He was killed during the Battle of Guilford Courthouse and presumed buried there. Before the battle, Jack confided in his friend Henry Burnley that he felt he would die. Henry thought he was joking and, in turn, jokingly said to Jack that if this happened, he would marry Jack's widow and care for her and his children. Jack did die in the battle, and Henry made good on his promise, marrying Lucy Barksdale Davenport in 1782.
