Story: Move To New Brunswick 1760 Posted by patruiz61 <p> </p><p> The French and Indian war, abt. 1755-1763, brought many changes in the American colonies.  With the defeat of the French in Quebec (1759) and Montreal (1760) the balance of power shifted and was finally completed with the Treaty of Paris in 1763, when Britian became officially in control of Canada.  The British did not wait for the treaty to occupy the territory, however.  The British governor, Charles Lawrence, urged settlers from New England to occupy the land.  Between 1759 and 1768, about 8,000 settlers migrated from New England to obtain land in Canada.  The John Fillmore family was one of those  who took advantage of the newly aquired territory.</p><p><font face="sans-serif"><span style="line-height: 19px"><br></span></font></p> Comment
