Jan. 1762 ; admitted an Advocate [S.], 1774; M.P. for Fifeshire, July 1779 to 1780 ; for Kirkaldy burghs, 1780-84; for Seaford, March 1785 till void in 1786 ; for Stirling burghs, 1802 till void in Feb. 1803, and again 1806-07 ; suc. to the Baronetcy, 19 Oct. 1781 ; director of the Chamber of Commerce, July 1789 ; Provost of the borough of Inverkeithen, Oct. 1802. He m., in May 1781, ( — ) da. of General Robertson, of Newbigging, Governor of New York; she d. 6 Feb. 1782. He d. s.p.m. 12 Dec. 1817, at Edinburgh."
