About John Hiester
US Congressman. He acquired an education through the local school system and then entered into the lumber business with his father. He married and had seven children. During the Revolutionary War he volunteered for service with the Pennsylvania Militia and was commissioned a captain. Before the war was over he had been promoted up to colonel and after the war was elected a major general. He was elected as a Republican to the Tenth Congress and served from March 4, 1807 to March 3, 1809.
