About John C. Kenney

About 1811, John Kenney moved his family to Ralls County, Missouri. His wife died in 1822, a few years after they moved west. John Kenney moved to near Hannibal, Missouri about 1820 with his second wife and his three sons. His sons Willis and Isaac Kenney returned to Kentucky when Isaac was about 18 years old. John Kenney and his son Fontain Kenney stayed near Hamilton, Missouri.

He was probably the John Kenney for whom Kenny, Illinois was named. If so, he went there in 1834. A county history says, "Another old settler, John Kenny, came from Bourbon Co., Kentucky, in 1834, and settled in what was called the Bowles and Hall neighborhood. He came with his father's family, which consisted of father, step-mother, and six children, three sons, and three daughters. None of the family are living at this time. John died only a few years ago. The village of Kenney was named in honor of him, and it now occupies the ground on which his father first settled. Their pioneer log cabin was situated but a short distance north of the town."

Some sources say he died in Kenney, Illinois.
