Mr John Kiernan, 25, of Jersey City, New Jersey, was visiting relatives in Aghnacliffe, Co Longford, Ireland. On his return voyage to New Jersey he was bringing his younger brother Philip. He and his brother boarded the Titanic at Queenstown as third class passengers. John held ticket number 367227 which cost £7, 15s. They were accompanied by their cousin Tom McCormack.
It is believed that he was a neighbour of the Murphy sisters, for whom he purchased tickets to sail on Titanic.
John Kiernan lost his life in the disaster. His body was not recovered.
