Vance's book says there is no documentary evidence to prove Anna Margaret's surname was Stader or Steder. -------------------- John's name in German, was Johann Ludowigh Klap (translated in to English: John Ludwig Klapp/Clap).
He arrived with family & in-laws at port of Philadelphia aboard the ship "James Goodwill." The passengers aboard were listed as Palatines, or persons from the Rhineland Palatines, Pfalz in the German language.
The ship's arrival at Philadelphia is recorded as follows: "List of Pennsylvia German Pioneers: a list of Palatyns, Imported in ye Ship James Goodwill, David Crockatt, Master, from Rotterdam, Sept. 27, 1727, 6 Men to be Sworn, 14 number in family."
