He was a veteran of the Civil War. Enlisting in the service of the United States at Gosport, County of Owen and State of Ind. on the 1 day of Dec. 1861, as a Private in Company B commanded by Captain Wilson in the 59 Regiment of Ind. Volunteers in the War of 1861.
He and his wife are buried in Washington twp., Greene co., In. at Dog Island/Mt. Zion Cemetery it being a nickname given it after a flood. Because that it being on high ground my father told me when noses where counted there were more dogs there than people! The real name of the cemetery is Mt. Zion and was also the site of the country church, all that's left I am assuming from the church is the front wall and what appears to have been a set of steps.

After this his land records are recorded in Greene co., In. along with his descendants. These records continue down to, today but I stopped checking entries in the index book that included 1917 as that covered all land records of my great grandfather Robert Thomas McKee and his wife Martha Ann (Dye) Waggoner. Plus I was getting tired of lifting those heavy deed index books and time was running short
