"(399) Sir John Murray of Cockpool, died c. 1527. His lands in Dumfriesshire and Kirkcudbright were erected into the Barony of Cockpool 1509. He had issue :

• Cuthbert (No. 400).
• Patrick Murray, Tutor of Cockpool. Married Janet Campbell.

He had also a natural son :

• David (No. 406)."
