C. This John in 1674 paid hearth tax for a house with two or three hearths so he was not a poor man. He married twice, maybe three times, all Elizabeths. The first, Elizabeth Codd, died only a year after their marriage, and a year later he married a second Elizabeth who produced two children before dying when the elder, William, was six years old. Bridget, the younger, was four and died herself aged twenty-one.
