About John "the Quaker" Perrot

John Perrot "the Quaker" (say 1620-1665). He cannot be the same person as John Parrott, of Nansemond River.

He first appears as a Quaker preacher in Limerick, Ireland before 1656. His birth date is unknown but he was likely a young man in his mid 20s or early 30s. He went to Rome in 1657 at the expense of the Quakers on a mission to convert the Pope. He was imprisoned in a madhouse. In 1661 he was released and returned to England. In 1662 he and some of his followers emigrated to Barbados, where he adopted a lavish lifestyle. He died in Barbados some time before October 1671.

The ancestry of John Perrott "the Quaker" is unknown. It has been suggested he was a descendant of Sir John Perrott, Lord Deputy of Ireland, through an illegitimate line.
