About John Renton

John Renton was an English portrait and landscape painter, who exhibited at the Royal Academy from 1799 to 1840. He contributed altogether some forty pictures, one of which was a 'Charles I. raising his Standard at Nottingham.' In the year 1840 he sent some intaglios to the exhibition.

He specialised in portraits of religious non-conformists and painted members of his family. Paintings of family by John were handed down through the line of Richard Renton, his brother.
