John Hugo Russell, 3rd Baron Ampthill

  • Born on 4 October 1896.
  • Son of Arthur Oliver Villiers Russell, 2nd Baron Ampthill and Lady Margaret Lygon.
  • Married, firstly, Christabel Hulme Hart, daughter of Lt.-Col. John Hart and Blanche Anstruther Erskine, on 18 October 1918 at St. Jude's, Kensington, London, England. He and Christabel Hulme Hart were divorced in 1931.* * Married, secondly, Sibell Faithfull Lumley, daughter of Thomas Wilkinson Lumley, on 22 February 1937.
  • Married, thirdly, Adeline Mary Constance Hone, daughter of Canon Henry Evelyn Hone and Adeline Mabel Ellen Lane, on 24 July 1948.
  • Died on 3 June 1973 at age 76

Fought in the First World War gaining the rank of Captain in the service of the Royal Navy.

In April 1922 he petitioned for divorce on account of his wife's adultery, with misconduct alleged as early as November 1918. In 1923 he again petitioned for a divorce, and disclaimed paternity of his son, Geoffrey. The petition was overturned on appeal in 1924.

In 1925 his wife was granted a declaration that his son was legitmate (although this seems doubtful given the various claims).

He succeeded to the title of 3rd Baron Ampthill, of Ampthill, co. Bedford [U.K., 1881] on 7 July 1935.

He fought in the Second World War.
