John S. SPOONER

   Finding, as early as Oct. 16, 1669, that John Spooner was one of a jury appointed by the Court of Assistants "to lay out an highway, vizt., a county road from Middleboro, Bridgewater, and other places toward Boston," - establishes the fact, that at that date he was a man of consideration, and esteemed by the Court as of sound judgment, - such services were then only confided to men of known worth and intelligence, and usually of mature years.

   He further served the Colony as Grand Juror, in 1702; and, his townsmen as Surveyor of Highways, 1686, 1699 and 1700, and was a member of the Town Council 1690. It is recorded that John Spooner was elected, May 18th, 1710, to represent Dartmouth in the General Court, - but on reference to the published list of officers as compiled by Mr. Whittemore, it is not seen that he took his seat as Representative.

John S. SPOONER 1 (William , John , James ) was born about 1644 in Plymouth, Plymouth, Massachusetts. He died 7 Feb 1733/1734 in Dartmouth, Bristol, Massachusetts.

  John married (1) UNKNOWN 1 about 1667. UNKNOWN was born about 1646.

They had the following children:

 i 	John , Jr. SPOONER was born 2 Jul 1668 and died BET 4 MAR 1727/28 AND 12 APR 1728.

John also married (2) Rebecca PECKHAM 1, daughter of John PECKHAM and Elaeanor WEAVER, on 1680 in Plymouth, Plymouth, Massachusetts. Rebecca was born 1658 in Newport, Newport, Rhode Island. She died after 1699 in Dartmouth, Bristol, Massachusetts.

They had the following children:

ii William SPOONER was born 11 May 1680 and died before 11 Jul 1729.

     	18 	M 	iii 	Jonathan SPOONER 1 was born 28 Aug 1681 in Plymouth, Plymouth, Massachusetts. He died 13 Apr 1711.[Notes]

     	  	  	  	Jonathan married 1 Anness GIDLEE on 17 Apr 1705 in Dartmouth, Bristol, Massachusetts. Anness was born about 1681.

iv Elizabeth M. SPOONER was born 19 Jun 1683 and died 14 Jul 1734.

v Eleanor SPOONER 1 was born 1 Feb 1684/1685 in Plymouth, Plymouth, Massachusetts.

vi Phebe SPOONER was born 11 May 1687 and died 1731.

vii Nathan SPOONER was born 21 Feb 1688/1689 and died after 1744.

viii Rebecca SPOONER was born 8 Oct 1691 and died 9 Mar 1728/1729.

ix Deborah SPOONER 1 was born 10 Aug 1694 in Dartmouth, Bristol, Massachusetts.

x Barnabas SPOONER was born 5 Feb 1698/1699 and died 6 Feb 1733/1734.
