John Ephraim Smart, son of Charles Smart and Almira Harriman, was born in Bucksport, Hancock Co., Maine on Apr. 2, 1857. He married with SUSANNAH GRANT, dau. of Allen Carter Grant and Calista A. Conn. She was born in Plymouth, Sheboygan Co., Wisconsin on Sept. 24, 1864. He died Wausau, Marathon Co., Wisconsin on June 28, 1911; she died there May 10, 1941. Both buried at Pine Grove Cemetery, Wausau, Marathon Co., Wisconsin.

Children were: Dora Adelle, May Belle, and Harry Eugene
