About John Glover Smith

John Glover Smith, also known as John S. Smith, was a farm laborer and farmer, born 31 October 1808 in West Milton, Northumberland, Pennsylvania. He was 34 years old when he was baptized in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on 9 July 1843. John Glover Smith served in the U.S. Mormon Battalion during the Mexican War from 1846 to 1848, and led the John G. Smith Company of Mormon pioneers to Salt Lake City in 1851. He had four plural wives and four children. John Glover Smith died on 13 March 1888 in Draper, Salt Lake, Utah Territory, at the age of 79 years. He is buried in the Draper City Cemetery, Plot A-16-3, Draper, Salt Lake, Utah, United States.

The town of Smithfield, Cache County, Utah, was named after John Glover Smith, who was its first bishop.
