John Stevens, Sergeant; of Salisbury, "husbandman," probably born about 1611. Married Katherine, who died July 31, 1682. He was believed to be one of the first settlers from England because he received land in the first division from the King of England, 1640-1645; he was a commoner and was taxed in 1650, 1652, and in 1654; he singed petitions of 1658-1680, ect. Sergeant John Stevens Sr. was a member of the Salisbury Church in 1687. He died February 1688-1689. His will April 12, 1686, November 26, 1689; mentioned "Bro. Severans".
