Note: Came to Salem, Mass. with the first party of "Bay Coherts" in 1629, from County Westmoreland, England. An original settler of Charlestown; made a freeman in 1631. Following is from a biographical book pg 691 whose title was unidentified:

STRICKLAND (sometimes on old record Stickland or Sticklion). Sgt. JOHN, the settler, from Watertown, MA probably in March or May 1635, had been about that time with five others, dismissed from the church at that place in order to form a new church on the Connecticut, and they all came to Wethersfield together. He sold his land and property in Watertown in March 1640 preparatory to removing to Long Island (perhaps to Huntington); he was a soldier in the Pequot war of 1637. Wethersfield Records contain no record of his children.

Unsure, but most likely -------------------- John Strickland had come to America with the first party of "Bay Coherts" to Salem in 1629, took posession of Charlestown and vicinity in 1630, and was made Freeman in May, 1631. John Strickland and all his family except one son (Thwaite) came to Long Island after 1646, and were among the early settlers of note in that vicinity
