The will of John Wright was dated on June 1, 1785, and probated on February 27, 1792, at Fauquier County, Virginia, W.B. 2/219, listed Betsey Wright as the daughter of his son James Wright: "In The Name Of God Amen I John Wright of the Parish of Hamilton & County of Fauquier in the Common Welth of Virginia, . . . .

Item I give to my grand daughter Betsey Wright daughter to my son James Wright one negro named Jinny to her, her Heirs and assigns forever. . . ."

The marriage record of Elizabeth Wright and John James was dated on June 28, 1785, at Fauquier County, Virginia, with James Wright as surety: "Know All Men by these presents that we John James and James Wright are held and firmly bound unto his Excellency Patrick Henry Esq Governor of Virginia in the sum of fifty pounds to which payment well & truly to be made to the sd Patrick Henry & his successors we bind ourselves & each of us our & each of our heirs Exors & Admors jointly & severally firmly by these presents sealed with our seals & dated this 28th day of June 1785

The Condition is that whereas there is a marriage shortly intended to be solemnized between the above bound John James & Elizabeth Wright for which a license hath issued Now if there be no lawfull cause to obstruct the said intended marriage then this obligation to be void or else to remain in force
