John Winters came to Texas in 1832 with his brother William C. In Battle of San Jacinto, Capt Ware's Co. Sherman's Division.

John was a rancher, owned 6,500 acres in Bexar, Polk, Jones, Kinney, San Jacinto, Walker, and Young counties. Had 8 children with wife Margaret Ella Miller. Second wife was Henrietta R Ramsdell - 2 girls. Buried, Home Place, 300 N W .

A special monument was erected for John Frelan Winters in New Waverly, Texas

Children: Ruth, Rhoda, Bettie, Sherman, Jim, Jack and Billie. Second wife - childs name Cora
